How To Make Wine Cork Plant Markers

Now I have an allotment and am actually, hopefully, managing to grow some vegetables and fruits. I realised I need garden markers so I can remember where and what I have planted in my raised beds and my planters at home. I made some really simple wine cork plant markers that are a great way to reuse those wine corks. And the best thing is you don’t need to buy any plastic markers.

WINE CORK PLANT MARKERS

Materials:

If you don’t have wine corks on hand, you can buy them by the bag at most craft stores or at Amazon. Alternatively have your friends save a few for you. You will need one cork for each plant you wish to mark.

Directions:

  1. Using a sharpie, write the name of the herb, vegetable or fruit that you have planted onto the side of the wine cork.
  2. If you don’t already have a hole in your wine cork you can make one either with the end of your skewer or if you are using dowel you may need to use a screwdriver.
  3. Squeeze some Power Repair Glue into the hole you have just made then insert the wooden skewer/ dowel into the base of the cork.
  4. Once dry you can place the wood skewer into the soil and you are done!

Note — you may need to trim the length of your wood skewer/dowel depending on how deep the area is that you are inserting the garden markers.

I have used Bostik Power Repair Glue, which I was gifted, for this craft as it is an ultra strong, fast drying glue that provides a long lasting bond. It is suitable for use on a wide range of materials and can be used in extreme temperatures. It is also waterproof, making it ideal for outdoor crafts like this.

If you’re looking for a great eco friendly gift, make a set of these wine cork plant markers and tie them together using twine. You add a little pot with your favourite herb or vegetable already planted to start them off.
