Dubai is a destination firmly on my travel bucket list. The one thing that has been putting me off is the thought of how expensive it is once you get there. Especially if you are travelling as a family, or a larger family, like us. But after a bit of research I discovered that whether you’re going on a lavish high-end trip or you’re travelling on a shoestring budget – the possibilities for Dubai holidays are endless.

You’re budget might stay the same the whole holiday, or maybe like us, you like to do most activities on a budget and then have a couple of more expensive items on your itinerary.  No matter your plan you can use this handy tool to find activities suited to your budget.

The top 6 things to do in Dubai as a family

Go to the top of world’s tallest building – Burj Khalifa

A visit to the top of the tallest building in the world is a must when in Dubai. If you go in the evening and the views of the city in the dark will be amazing. Book in advance to avoid disappointment or go in the morning when it’s less busy.

Ride a camel

If you go to the desert, take the opportunity to book a camel ride and experience something completely different.

Take a Dubai water bus or a water taxi

Hop on the water bus on Dubai Marina or take a traditional Abra water taxi on Dubai Creek. It’s a fun an inexpensive experience for everyone.

Visit Dubai Spice Souk and Gold Souk

The colours, tastes, and the hustle and the bustle of a traditional market will impress any child. Don’t forget to smell the spices!

Visit an aquarium

There are two big aquariums in Dubai – The Lost Chambers Aquarium in Atlantis, The Palm, and the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo located inside the Dubai Mall. You can see the one in the mall without having to go inside and it looks really impressive. Beat the crows by going first thing in the morning.

See Dubai’s dancing fountains

The whole family will enjoy the music and light show of Dubai Fountain at the foot of Burj Khalifa. There are a couple of shows in the afternoon and every half hour starting at 6pm in the evening. It’s meant to be really impressive in the evenings.
