September little loves – A Pilates Retreat, Fresh Notebooks & A New Routine

September always feels like a little fresh start for me. I think years of School then University, followed by teaching as a career, when it hits September it just makes me think of fresh notebooks, new pens and that little excited feeling of starting anew.

September, as it always does, brought around some change. Kyle started year 6, Finlay year 3 and Ava is in her last year of Pre School. It’s also the second year in a row that I haven’t gone back to teaching, haven’t had a new class to get to know or a classroom to set up. Instead I found myself looking forward to September and the routine it brings. A chance for me to get on with some work without feeling like I’m ignoring the kids and to get back a sense of normal after the long summer holidays.

Carrying on with actually managing to fit in some reading I’ve read these books. Friend RequestHe Said/She Said & Believe Me

Watched

Ozarks season 2! A Netflix crime drama based on the story of Marty a financial adviser who drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder $500 million in five years to appease a drug boss. Season two carries on with even more drama. If you haven’t watched it yet, it’s definitely one we would recommend.

Visited

Pignoulet, the most beautifully restored French farmhouse for a pilates retreat. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and the weekend was just perfect. You can read my review here. Or watch my vlog …..

Wore

September was all about making the most of my summer dresses, especially in France. Then I carried on wearing them by adding a denim jacket and trainers instead of sandals, creating those transitional outfits that were the buzz word on Instagram.

And Lastly ….

Kyle turned 11 in September. I can still vividly remember the first night of his life, the first night of being a Mum. Standing in the corridor outside the maternity ward as he was crying and I didn’t want to wake the others. I looked down at his little sad face, eyes deep blue and felt that rush of love come. Not instantly when I first held him, grey and slippery after a very long labour. But hours later in the dark in the corridor on our own. That realisation that this was my baby and I was his Mum. And now he’s 11 and growing up so very quickly. He wanted a Slaam stunt scooter for his Birthday and has spent hours on it since, meaning plenty of time down at the local skate park.

We’ve also been using the Foobot which has been really interesting. It measures the quality of the air in your home.

Foobot can smell the invisible, odorless pollutants in your environment and makes them visible through its LED display. In one glance, the color and breadth of its glow will let you know whether your air feels more like a forest in the Alps or a freeway in L.A.

It’s made me open the windows more to air the house, especially after I have been cleaning and has really made me think about the pollutants we are breathing in indoors everyday. We have an open fire place and noticed a real spike after using it which prompted us to get our chimney swept. It also provides peace of mind at a glance that there are no leaks of anything toxic in the air.
