We’ve been lucky enough to be sent the Ant World one of the My Living World to review. The boys are loving and I’m loving the fact that they can get their bug fix in a contained way.
A bit more about the Ant World;
“Discover the fascinating life of ants in an ideal environment. Watch the ants build tunnels, keep their home tidy and feed each other. Study chemo-communication and ant Morse code. The best entertainment for a young naturalist! Ant World provides hours of fun as well as being educational. Children are encouraged to collect their own ants and told how to in the instruction manual. An Interplay order form for ants will also be included in the retail box.”
The Ant World is recommended for age 5 plus and the kit includes;
- Plastic Ant Housing
- 2 x shades
- Scene stickers
- Connectable magnifier bowl
- Clear tubing
- Feeding pipette
- Tunneling sand
- Instruction Manual
Ants can live in the Ant World for up to a year as long as you feed and water them. They like to eat sweet things like apples, bananas, jam or honey. It isn’t cruel at all. If you look after the ants they should live happily in Ant World. They are safe from predators and bad weather conditions. In fact, ants probably live longer than they do in the wild.

Yes, though I’d rather observe thenm than touch them!
i don’t mind them if they have legs like spiders, but not the slimy ones!!
They don’t bother me as long as they are not climbing on, my daughter loves them always picking up and playing with them.
yes I like bugs EXCEPT spiders and daddy long legs!
I dont mind them as long as there not near me x
Oh this is such a great gift for a child – my son would have loved it but too old now at 13 – though he probably would still like it if i’m honest – I thunk ants are fascinating – the big ones in the mediterranean climate are incredible to watch as they go about their work in lines #PickNMix
I don’t mind. Better than spiders! xx

I’ve entered! My kids would love this, me not so much! x #PicknMix
My son would adore this. I’m fine with most bugs, especially spiders. I used to be scared to death of them, but when O was born I realised they were eating the flies that were annoying my baby. We’ve lived happily side by side ever since!
My kids love all creatures so they would love this!
I’ve seen thes packs before and they look pretty good, even for someone who hates insects like me. How luck your little one was to try it.
#PicknMix
Gahhh this is my worst nightmare but my 7yr old would absolutely love it! #picknmix
I’m not sure I want an ant farm in my house, but this is a really great idea for a birthday present! #PicknMix
I like some bugs (providing they arent crawling all over me :/ ) We grew caterpillars into butterflies which was really cool and ladybugs are really pretty too 🙂

Ladybugs are great for the garden as well, one ladybug eats around 5,000 aphids in their lifetime! Kids enjoy watching the ladybugs eating the little aphids too. That’s another great way you can help kids learn by the power of observation, put some ladybugs in a jar or aquarium with some aphids for them to munch on.
I think my boys would love this – they love bugs and all sorts and currently we are attempting to farm stick insects but they are taking so long to hatch that I think they’ve lot interest! #PickNMix
Eilidh, Thanks for sharing about this ant farm. I used to have one when I was a kid, ants are a lot of fun to watch as are termites because they work together as a society of sorts. Have you had any issues with ants escaping from the “Ant World” ant farm? It looks like its designed well, but just curious…
as much as I am certain that the kids would love this, I HATE ANTS! They are all over the spot outside and they make me cringe.
Rachel,
Try sprinkling some borax powder outside where you are experiencing ant problems. It’s a safe natural way to help control ants.
I’m not keen on bugs but my kids love handling them!
I expect my boys would love this and so would I so long as there were no escapees 😉
Stevie xx
I’m not too keen on bugs really but my youngest daughter loves them and will spend hours watching them and playing with them
No but my daughter does xx
