5 things – Mums with boys

I love being a mum of boys, one thing it never is, is boring!

5 things mums with boys will understand.

1. If you don’t already appreciate toilet humour, you will need to learn to love it, ignore it or somehow tolerate it. Boys love all things toilet humour. Even just uttering the words poo, bum, willy, fart, pants will have them in fits of giggles. I’m lucky that I can join in with this to some extent. However when they are running around naked (boys love being naked) shouting ‘bum’ at each other it can get a bit much! They also like to wee! You will see lots of it, clean up lots of it and hear about it a lot.
2. They are always moving! From the moment they open their eyes in the morning they are busy. They have two speeds, fast and faster (except when they are getting dressed for school!) they will run everywhere and have one volume level, LOUD! Boys have constant energy that needs burning off and you either find ways to help them do this, or suffer the consequences.
3. There will be trips to A&E and many, many pairs of ripped, hole in the knee jeans! Boys can hurt themselves doing the simple everyday things, my eldest knocked himself out running along the pavement and tripping over his own feet! They are physical with each other. It’s like they have a constant need to be touching each other and be in each other’s space. If you have a climber you will learn to try and relax, look the other way or close your eyes when you see them suddenly leap off the highest piece of play equipment!

4. Mess, there will be lots of it. Boys can find dirt where no dirt has ever been found before and think anytime is a good time to get dirty. You will bore yourself with constantly reminding them to put their dirty clothes in the wash basket, put their toys back, not tread dirt into the house, put the toilet seat up/down and to wash their hands!!

5. They are loving. Boys are cuddly and love their mums. There is a special bond between mums and their boys. My almost 7 year old will reach for your hand when walking with you and still cuddles his teddy in bed. They are secret softies underneath the boisterousness. You as a Mum will feel fiercely over protective of them and won’t be able to imagine another girl ever being good enough/able to tolerate/ love them as much as you do!

One final thing. All boys look like absolute angels when they are sleeping! That is till they wake up again!

  1. I only have one boy and I found myself nodding along to all of these! Mr 5’s favourite thing to do at the moment is to sing a song with a mix of poo, bum and doodle. I just love it..especially when he does it in the middle of the supermarket.

  2. As a mother of a boy, I too am in agreement! It doesn’t get easier as they get older either – he’s nearly 16 and I still nod along!

  3. I agree with all these points haha especially the angel sleeping and A&E (good job chicks dig scars) xx #poloco

  4. My 4 month old boy first giggled at a fart noise, toilet humour is a definite for boys! Don’t know how excited I am for the A&E trips and dirt but Im sure the cuddles will make up for it 🙂

  5. I always think of my son as if he’s a puppy – he needs exercising outside every day otherwise the house will be in bits! #pocolo

  6. Couldn’t be more true!

So so true. My son is really cuddly, and out of me and my brother, my bro was definitely the cuddly one.

A great insight into the world of boys to a girl mum! I must admit I nodded along to some of it so I don’t think girls are that different 🙂 Thanks for linking up to #TheList x

  9. These are great! I have only got a girl but I have had the experience of the toilet humour – and still do now! Thank you for linking to PoCoLo 🙂 x

  10. WOOPPPEEE!!! Its not just my boy thats obsessed with willys, bums and poo! I dont know how i would deal with 2 hypo boys…high 5 to you! (I have 1 boy and 3 girls..also have a 8yo step son but he has always been a quite one bless him!) x

  11. Amen sister! I have two boys, 5 and 10, and I totally agree with every one of your points. They are all true. Particularly the toilet humour – my 5 year-old is constantly running around the house shouting that he’s just trumped and it stinks! I have learned that a simple roll of the eyes is all that’s needed. I’ve given up shouting as it just makes them do it more!

Leaving toilet seat up/washing of hands/ripped jeans. Yep yep yep.

But most of all I love the cuddles. I don’t get any kisses these days as they both think they’re too old but the cuddles are great. #PoCoLo

  12. I think boys and girls are very similar on most of these things. I have a little boy and all of this is so very true. But I also have lots of friends with little girls who are exactly the same, except with less willy playing!!!!
Thanks for linking up with #BinkyLinky

Thanks everyone, nice to see other Mums are experiencing the same. I love it though and wouldn’t change it! x

  14. I have all of this to come as i have a baby boy after having two girls . I really hope he is loving as neither of his sisters are x #thelist

  15. I am a mother of two boys so can relate to this post. They are cuddly but create a lot of mess and love their toilet humour.

  16. Thanks for linking up to #TheList xx
