Little bug bakery – Wildlife week with Wyevale Garden Centres

The boys love baking, it’s one of those activities that is always on my to do list with them. It’s not easy with the mess that they inevitably make and also now I have to make sure I use a recipe safe for Ava in case she manages to grab any. So when I was invited to attend one of Wyevale Garden Centres Wildlife Week Activities I straight away opted for the little bug bakery. For £5 each they could make squashed fly biscuits and decorate a creepy crawly cupcake. It came with unlimited squash and an activity sheet. As the activity was going to last for an hour and a half and finished at 4:30 I added in the Picnic boxes for £4 each.

On arrival we were shown to a large table and the boys started filling out their activity sheets whilst drinking squash. After hand washing they started to make their squashed fly cookies (raisin sugar cookies) The ingredients were already measured out for them in little pots, they got to mix them together doing their favourite making a mess and getting sticky hands. Both of them liked adding in the squashed flies (raisins). Once the cookies were made they squashed them down onto a baking tray and they were taken away to be baked.

We were then on to decorating our creepy crawly cupcakes. They covered their cupcakes in pre made butter icing using a squeezy bag which they thought was great fun. I even got a look in when they were making the spider and ladybird to go on the top of the cakes. They were both so proud of their finished cupcakes.

Wyevale at Wootton in Northampton has a really nice little soft play area which they were more than happy to get to have a play in whilst waiting for their cookies to finish baking. The staff gave us the option of having a picnic box with 5 items in or a hot meal of chicken goujons, chips and peas. Kyle opted for the hot meal and Finlay the picnic box. I sat with a coffee and a cake from Costa whilst they ate their dinner.

Wyevale had lots of different activities going on throughout the wildlife week and the boys would have enjoyed any of the other activities. The little bug bakery was great value for money and the staff were fantastic with the kids whilst being very helpful with any questions. I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more of their activities during School holidays.

Disclaimer: I was provided with tickets for the little bug bakery and picnic boxes in return for an honest review of our experience. Thank you Wyevale for having us.

Looks like a fab day! We were supposed to be going but car trouble at the last minute put a stop to that, I’ve seen they have things going on over Easter so might be luckier then!
