18 Goals For 2018

I’m aware that I am a little late in posting this, but in all honesty it’s taken me a week to think of 18 goals for 2018. Not one for the whole #newyearnewme bullshit (sorry) my goals reflect this. Maybe as I’m getting older I am all too aware that I am who I am. Last year I didn’t make any goals apart from to start on a fitness journey, which I did and will be continuing. I was just desperate to feel healthy and strong after being so ill in the December. This year with having a little more time for myself I think these 18 goals should be achievable.

I’ve focused on improving rather than a whole new thing, which let’s be honest, at 33 I know the things I can improve on. I’m never going to be the tidiest person in the world no matter how hard I try but a morning and evening routine does help and it’s implementing these little changes that can make a big overall difference.

18 Goals for 2018

1. Fitness I started on my fitness journey last year. I felt weak in January and was desperate to feel stronger and healthier. It’s been slow going but I am so glad I started and I won’t be stopping anytime soon. This year I want to push myself out of my comfort zone, use more free weights and join in new classes.

2. Do more of what makes me happy and not feel guilty for it Ok hands up who has craved that little bit of away time from the kids to then only feel guilty for it once you are actually doing it? I know that me time, makes me a better Mum. I come back refreshed, more patient and with renewed energy. I’m going to try and do more of what makes me happy and not feel so guilty for it.

3. Challenge myself to face fears and do things I think I don’t like Currently I feel like my anxiety is better under control so I want to use this opportunity to challenge myself. Face some fears and do those things that I had started to not like and see if I can find some enjoyment in them once again. I’ve already taken Ava swimming (something I don’t really like now) and done a new gym class, pushing myself right out there and I plan on continuing to do more of these things.

4. Read more When I made the time last year to read I enjoyed it and so I’m joining in with a book club and following some recommendations on Instagram. I am already a few chapters into my first book of the year and I’m aiming to read at least one a month (I used to be able to read a good one in a day!)

5. Have more date nights, find a babysitter We need more time together! With James working away a lot this coming year the time he is here we need to make more of. I plan on finding a local babysitter so that we can get out and about and rediscover the things we enjoy doing together.

6. Stop the aimless scrolling I need my phone and social media for work unfortunately but I HATE the aimless scrolling it sucks you in to. So no more! I won’t stop myself using it but I will be making a conscious effort to put it down and be more present.

7. Worry less Stopping that train of thought and not going down the rabbit hole! I’ve been reading a great book, Stop Thinking, Start Living and I am starting to be more aware of the thought processes I have and how the effect my mood.

8. Plan another Challenge I walked a Marathon last year and I thoroughly enjoyed the sense of accomplishment after, not so much during it. It pushed me to my limits and I really want to do another challenge now. I might have to wait for my toenails to heal but I can start planning and training for one.

9. Get published I would love to have something I have written published. This is probably the one goal on here that makes me feel a little anxious as I don’t know how to go about doing it.

10. Drink more water This isn’t about fluid intake, it’s more about swapping the Diet Coke for a glass of water. I know I won’t stop drinking it but I have started off by making myself have a glass of water first and then as a reward I get the coke. I’ve notice myself reaching for the water a little bit more regularly already.

11. Travel If I could do anything tomorrow it would be to go off travelling. The travel itch is getting stronger and stronger. Months of travelling isn’t possible unfortunately,  with work commitments, school and split families, however I really want to tick some new places off my travel bucket list this year.

12. Find a skincare routine There is not pretending that my skin isn’t ageing. A love of sun hasn’t helped and I need to get better with the daily SPF. I want to find a skin care routine and products that I like. One that can be quick when I need it to be.

13. Try Youtube again When I look back at he videos I made last year I love them, even if it’s just for memories. I want to make more this year and get my confidence up infront of the camera.

14. Stop thinking negatively about myself For as long as I can remember there has been a little negative voice inside my head and I definitely suffer with imposter syndrome. But I know that I need to have my own back and stop self sabotaging myself.

15. Keep a plant alive I am not naturally green fingered and I have killed every plant I have ever had in the house. It’s my goal this year to get a big green plant and keep it alive. I might even show my journey on Instagram!

16. Get crafty I used to love making things for myself, for others and over the last few years I have stopped and I’m not sure why. So this year I would like to try and become a little more crafty again. Maybe go to a couple of workshops and make something. I’ve seen a chunky arm knitted blanket one I would love to do.

17. Be in the picture more I am going to have to ask for some help with this one. I might even look into getting a family photo shoot. wit the boys getting older they aren’t going to want to be in the picture with me for much longer.

18. Learn something new I might be cheating a little with this one as I’m hoping to learn to ski. I’ve never done it before so it will be a totally new skill to learn and I’m excited at that prospect.

So there you have it, my 18 goals for 2018. I think I have made them manageable enough, apart from maybe the plant one. Wish me luck!

  1. You’ve got some great aims for the year ahead. I especially like the one about doing things that make you happy and not feeling guilty- I want to steal that one. Quite often on a Saturday afternoon my husband will give me some time alone to blog or watch tv and I spend the whole two hours feeling sad that I’m not with my family. Sucks doesn’t it?

Ooh a great list! I hear you on number 15… I am useless at gardening but I would love to embrace it this year and try to make our garden look a bit prettier! xx

  3. This is a great list – I love number 15 – I too am terrible at keeping plants alive!!!

  4. I love reading other peoples goals, I’m so nosey! I definitely want to try and be in front of the camera more this year too x

  5. I loved the list, I can relate to so many of these. Keeping a plant alive I probably should have wangled onto my own list as I am plain awful, most of ours are faux because I dare not put them through the misery of dying a slow death in our house.

I love reading everyone’s goals at this time of year – I know resolutions are such a love/hate thing but I’m all for them! I have a few similar to yours, although I didn’t even put the keeping a plant alive on my list, I know fine well I wouldn’t manage it! xxx

  8. Great list here, I have a lot of similar ones too!
