Hamerton Zoo Review and Video Plus win a family ticket

Visit a Zoo was on our Family bucket list for the year and one that we have now ticked off after our fab visit to Hamerton Zoo. Have a watch of our video below. And don’t forget you can enter to win a family ticket to Hamerton Zoo at the bottom of this post.

The Animals

Hamerton Zoo is home to around 100 different species of animals with a few being rare, endangered and on the brink of extinction. One thing you will notice as you walk around the zoo is the space that the animals have to roam in. I liked that the animals are not shut in or out, but this means there is a possibility that you may not see some of the animals if they are choosing to hide away.

On arrival we were told feeding and talk times. We managed to make it to watch the Meerkats being fed.

Seeing the two white Bengal Tigers who are very rare was definitely a highlight!  We were lucky enough to see one up close. One of the major refurbishments has been to the Tiger enclosure. Unfortunately, although lovely, we only saw the Tigers from a distance as they were sleeping on our visit.

I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a Giant Ant Eater before. Kyle was fascinated!

I think my favourite was the Flamingos!

We were lucky that the monkeys decided to put on a display for us. You can see them swinging around on our video.

The Stroll A Safari was popular with Ava and the boys. It’s home to Pygmy goats, Chickens, Sheep, Camels and my favourite, the Alpacas (so cute!) If you haven’t watched the video yet, there was a sheep who had the weirdest baa I have ever heard! You can feed to animals for 20p so makes sure you have some change with you, unlike us.

The Play Areas and Express Railroad Train

We had a great time in the play area and I was impressed with the size and variety of equipment. There is a fenced off toddler section which Ava loved and the boys would have spent hours in the larger area. We all had a go on the zipwire!

The train runs every weekend and everyday throughout the school holidays. It is £2 per person which we didn’t know until we were all sitting on the train. It’s the only negative I have of the whole place. There were 6 of us and so it would have been £12 for a little train ride which I think is a bit pricey. The boys and James got off and went to the play area instead whilst I went on it with Ava. It doesn’t cover the entire park but with the music playing a catchy little tune Ava did enjoy it.

The cafe / Picnic area

There are plenty of picnic benches around the park with the majority of them undercover by the entrance, surrounded by Bamboo it made for a pleasant seating area. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink, however there is a small cafe that sells hot and cold food. The food is basic but tasted fine. We had a voucher for refreshments and used this for food and drinks from the cafe.

Hamerton Zoo Information

Hamerton Zoo is open every day except Christmas and boxing days and tickets can be brought at the gate or in advance online. Tickets are £13.99 for adults and £8.99 for 3-12 year olds. If you are planning on a trip then visit their website to print a 10% off voucher.

Used to visiting larger Safari Parks I wasn’t sure what we would make of a smaller Zoo. However, we had a great day and we would go back again in the future. Don’t forget to watch the video and see what we got up to!
